Coaching moves affect Leafs’ & Flames’ AHL affiliates

The Toronto Maple Leafs have fired Greg Gilbert from his head coaching position with the AHL-affiliate Toronto Marlies, while Calgary hired former Flames head coach Jim Playfair to man the bench for their affiliate in Abbotsford, B.C.

Marlies assistant coaches Joe Paterson and Jim Hughes have permission from the club to pursue other opportunities.

“Greg has been a valuable and loyal member of our organization,” Maple Leafs general manager Brian Burke said in a release. “We appreciate the dedication of the Marlies’ coaching staff and we wish them well in their future endeavours.”
