Colorado Avalanche centre Paul Stastny will have surgery Tuesday to repair his fractured right forearm.

Stastny was injured blocking a shot by Olli Jokinen in Tuesday’s 5-4 overtime win against Phoenix. He will likely be sidelined for six to eight weeks.

Coach Tony Granato spoke about Stastny’s surgery and status at Sunday’s practice, according to team spokesman Damen Zier.

In 34 games with the Avalanche this season, the Quebec City native has 31 points, with 10 goals and 21 assists. In 66 games during 2007-2008, he had 24 goals and 47 assists.

In three NHL seasons, Stastny has 64 NHL career goals, and 119 assists. The Avalanche drafted him in the second round (44th overall) of the 2005 draft.
